FAQ About Unemployed and its Members

What is Unemployed?

Unemployed is a Horde faction adult raiding guild located on the Hydraxis realm in the MMORPG World of Warcraft.

How long have you been together as a guild?

Unemployed was formed on February 5, 2007. Hydraxis opened in January 2007 as a new server for the upcoming Burning Crusade expansion. The creators of the guild, Pilsner and Guinesa, were rerolls from an overpopulated server. Unemployed’s original members (many of whom are still with us today) were mostly fresh meat, creating their first characters at the launch of BC.

What is a "casual raiding" guild, and is that how you'd define Unemployed?

Our primary goal is focused on PvE (player versus environment) progression which requires gaming in groups of up to 40 players (mainly 10- and 25-person groups now). This type of gameplay can require large amounts of time to be dedicated to playing the game and for many working adults, players with small children and those with active lives, this can present issues. Unemployed was formed to help those with less time to dedicate to the game experience content they may not otherwise be able to see. We achieve this by being very flexible and patient in our raiding schedules and strategies. We will never kick anyone from the guild who is fairly active simply because they cannot raid consistently.

We don't identify ourselves specifically as "casual" due to the nature of its myriad definitions based on what part of the "casual" ---> "hardcore" spectrum the definer is at. We raid to experience content and have a good time.

What do you look for in members?

An ability to chew through leather restraints and not spill their beer... okay seriously, we look for people who will fit our community environment. Our players are quick witted, fun loving and not ready for prime time. For the most part we are very laid back and though we take our raiding very seriously, it never fails to be an opportunity to banter and abuse one another in a way only people who truly care and enjoy each other's company can. We do not guild anyone under 18 and the age range that best describes the average is somewhere just under 30. For the core raiding group we look for people who have a good open availability (approximately 4-5 nights per week), know their class and play it well and are always striving to better their playing through upgrading their character and reading strategies for boss fights and events. For general members, we look for those who we think will fit in well personality-wise and will be an asset to the guild.

Why do you have an age policy?

We have heard all the arguments about age and maturity and we agree that some 16 year olds are very mature for their age and some 30 year olds are very immature for their age. No argument there. This is an adult guild and we choose to play with adults, period.

So how can I join Unemployed?

We have been one of the lucky guilds in the game in finding fantastic people to guild. If you are looking to apply to be part of the core raid group, there needs to be an opening for your class/spec to be considered. Knowing us ahead of time and us knowing you is always a good thing as we will take someone we know and feel is a good fit over a random applicant. Casual players are taken in from time to time and are either real-life friends/family of our players or players who we have met through the course of gaming that we feel would be a good fit here in a non-raiding capacity. If you fit either of these descriptions then please visit the application area and follow all the procedures for applying.

Why is your application/interview process so long?

The leadership and members of Unemployed put a lot of time, effort and real money into running this guild and we expect those coming in to put be very educated about the guild and go the extra mile in telling us why they would be a good fit here. If you had a choice between a guild that added you without expecting these things and allowed anyone to be a member, or a guild that is more exclusive and picky about who is brought in and wants to see dedication and commitment, which one would you prefer to join?

I applied, went through the interview process and was not accepted – why? Can I reapply?

We turn people down for various reasons and as a rule we will tell you what those are. Sometimes we do not know ourselves, it may be something we cannot pinpoint but we feel that you may not be a good fit overall. Depending on the issue, we will tell you to reapply in the future should another position open up. Not everyone who applies will be a good fit here and it does not mean you would not be an excellent fit elsewhere. We wish you the best in your travels in WoW.

What is the guild leadership type of Unemployed?

Well, we're not quite a democracy, we're not exactly an oligarchy either... I believe the correct term is "benevolent dictatorship." Pilsner and Guinesa are the leaders of the guild. While we have the last say in any matter, the advice of officers and veterans of the guild weigh very heavily in the final decision. We frequently request feedback from the membership, and are open to hearing suggestions or concerns. Key word there is hearing; just because it's suggested doesn't necessarily mean it's gonna happen, but it doesn't mean your ideas won't ever be implemented in any capacity.

Can I use the imagery from this site?

Nope. It's designed by me (Pilsner) and Tigerfeet as a gift to the players of our guild. Please don't take it and use it on your site. Develop something that is uniquely your own.

Can I use some of the policy/FAQ/recruitment wording and so on for my guild's site?

Yup. Chupathingy's and Resurrection's sites were a large inspiration for the rewrite of much of our policy guide and some parts we stole shamelessly from them. Other parts of the site have been inspired by numerous sites as well as written by the players we have guilded here. We believe in information sharing and any text on the site you are more than welcome to use and share alike. The only things off limits are the site graphics.
