Recruiting
We have two classifications we recruit into:
General Membership
Raiding
General Membership Applications
This is the manner in which we bring players into who apply to us when we are not looking for specific raiding players. As a rule these players are friends and family of our current guilded members. Occasionally these are players that have had some interaction with us either in-game on the server or from one of the forums we frequent and have decided that we would be a perfect fit for them and they for us.
Please realize that those players we guild as general members will be placed in a non-raiding rank and we cannot guarantee if or when they might get moved up to a raiding rank. Players are moved up based on the desire of the individual to raid and the needs of the guild as a whole for raiding members. You must be in good standing at the member rank and be geared to survive boss encounters to move up into a raiding slot.
Please make sure you understand the limitations of this classification before you apply to it.
Raiding Applications
There must be an opening in the raiding group for you to accepted directly to the raid group. As openings in the raid group become available, we look internally first to fill them. If we do not have a player who wishes to move into the raid group (or one we feel would be a good fit), we will look outside of the guild to fill our raid spots.
If there is a raid slot open and you are going to apply for it, please pay close attention to the following policies:
Raiding
Loot Distribution
Please note, Pledges that have applied for raiding positions are required to maintain 100% attendance for a minimum of two consecutive weeks in order to be considered for full membership.
Completing the Application and the Interview Process
Our application and interview process is somewhat long and complex and going through it is the only way to get into the guild. This may seem to some as elitist and unnecessary and while we will agree to some extent that it is a bit elitist, we consider it quite necessary.
We are elitist in that we want to be sure we are guilding players who will fit comfortably in our guild environment and thrive as players. We do this to ensure that our current members continue to enjoy being here and playing with those we bring in and that the entering player also feels as though they have found a secure, fun gaming environment.
As a guilded player with us you will appreciate our careful screening of applicants, as it drastically cuts down much of the drama other guilds can sometimes run into when not doing research on those they are guilding. If as an applicant you feel the application and interview process is too long and a waste of your time then please do not apply as we will not be a good fit for you.
Filling Out the Application
A few points to keep in mind when filling out the application:
Be sure you answer the application questions thoroughly and take your time in doing so. If you have answered yes and no to the application and have finished it in five minutes' time, you have just wasted five minutes as it will show and your application will be passed over.
Omg f u talk lk all l33t and make our eyes bleed with your horrific grasp of the English language, you are not going to be a good fit here. Ever.
You need to be at least 18 and preferably 21 or over. We are not going to debate the age versus maturity issue; it is our rule and our choice to guild adults only.
While applying to guilds other then ours does not void your application with us, it can have some bearing on whether we choose to go forward with your application. We are looking for players who want to be guilded with us, not just any raiding guild that will take them. If you're carpet bombing your guild applications or if you are applying to vastly different guild types, chances are we will not be interested in you as a player.
Interview and Test Run(s)
Interviews and/or follow-up questions are conducted by officers of the guild. Depending on timing this may occur over Vent, ingame, on the forum, or a combination of those. Please realize that we too play this game and that in addition to our regular raid schedule we have a busy administrative schedule for the day-to-day running of the guild. Particularly during peak recruitment periods, the interview process can take up to a couple of weeks.
We interview players based on "greatest need" - in other words, if our raids are going to be affected by lack of a specific class/spec, we will interview players in that class/spec first regardless of the date of application. Your ability to be patient in this process will speak volumes to us about adding you to the guild, as patience is a virtue we value highly.
Following review of the application and interview, if you are being considered for acceptance, you will be invited to attend one or more test runs. These may consist of Heroics, 10-man raids, and/or 25-man raids.
If it has been some time since you applied and you're curious as to what the status of your application is, please feel free to contact an officer and ask. We simply ask that you do not send tells to us when we are in raids and that you do not send tells to us every day looking for your status. We do try to get back to people in a timely manner but we (the leadership) are only a few people compared to the number in the guild we communicate with and the number that have applied and there are times we simply cannot catch up with everyone.
The Friends and Family Discount
Unemployed has a Friends and Family Discount that allows for friends and family of our guilded members to apply to the guild during times when recruitment is closed. We understand that people enjoy playing this game with their friends and family and strongly support the opportunity to play this game with one's loved ones. With that support comes the need for some understanding from our members and those they would like to have guilded with us under the Friends and Family discount.
Who qualifies for the Friends and Family discount?
A real-life friend or family member, someone you see socially outside of the game on a regular basis (this includes friends who now live in separate parts of the country/world).
A co-worker, someone you work with currently or have in the past.
A long-term gaming partner, someone you have played many games with over time (for example those that played Everquest together, Anarchy Online and so on).
Who does not qualify:
Players you were guilded with briefly.
Players you met when leveling and talk to sporadically.
Players you have run occasional PUGs with.
A good rule of thumb is that if the person is a casual acquaintance and you would not invite him or her to your home, they are not a candidate for the Friends and Family discount.
Note to both players looking to have their friends/family guilded and those being guilded under Friends and Family:
While we may not be as stringent in the friends/family application and interview process, we still expect those looking to be guilded with us to take it seriously. The application process was designed as a "safety net" of sorts for our guilded members to help us better identify quality people to have in our guild environment. Once a player is guilded here, the effect of this process is apparent and appreciated. All players looking to join Unemployed are expected to fill out the application in full to the best of their ability; this includes a guilded member's friends/family.
The interview process can be quite lengthy and in the case of friends/family it can sometimes take a bit longer. While we do not intentionally push the applications to the back, realize that as a raiding guild our first priority is to ensure we are filling the raid groups so that they can continue raiding without interruption and in times of heavy recruitment for the purposes of raiding, friends/family applications are not a priority for us.
As a rule we do not guild friends/family directly into raiding spots - if you have told your friend they can come here to raid, you have lied to them. If you are applying as the result of a friend/family member and you have been told you are going to be raiding right away, you have (more than likely) been lied to.
We have had many players that have been added though Friends and Family that eventually end up raiding and in some cases we may have an opening that we could potentially bring a friend or family member of a guilded player into. The key takeaway here is that you are not guaranteed a spot in any raid group in Unemployed and continually pestering the leadership or having your friend/family member pester the leadership about it is not tolerated. You may state your interest in raiding and leave it at that; we're smart folks and know where to find you should a spot open up. To fully understand the raiding process in Unemployed and what we are looking for in our raiding players please read the policy topic on Raiding.
Friends and Family Disclaimer
The leadership of Unemployed has the right to deny any applicant that we feel would not be a good fit for the guild despite their affiliation with our members. In other words, having a friend or family member guilded with us does not guarantee entry into the guild.
